Synthesis of an Enantiomerically Pure Serine-Derived Thiazole.
-The bulky trityl group is shown to be the N-protecting group of choice in the synthesis of serine-derived thiazole amino acids. The trityl-group serves as a protecting group in the key-step, the conversion of thioamide (V) to the thiazole (VI) with Burgess salt and following oxidation, by protecting the Ξ±-center of the amino acid from deprotonation.
