Synthesis of 13 C-Dehydrocoelenterazine and Model Studies on Symplectoteuthis Squid Bioluminescence.

-Dehydrocoelenterazine is assigned as a chromophoric precursor to its apoprotein. In order to prove this mechanism, the 13 C enriched dehydrocoelenterazine (XIV) is synthesized and reacted with model sulfhydryl compounds such as dithiothreitol (XV) or glutathione. The adducts obtained are fixed under acidic conditions and the structures are discussed.
