Synthesis and Properties of Benzobis(thiadiazole)s with Nonclassical . pi.-Electron Ring Systems.
-The title compounds (V), (VI), (VIII), (IX), and (X), containing a hypervalent sulfur atom, have a low LUMO energy. MO calculations are performed in order to estimate the properties of these nonclassical compounds. The electron accepting properties of these compounds are shown by their high reduction potentials. Their cyclic voltammograms show that they are easily both oxidized and reduced. These heterocycles show strong fluorescence emission and may be applicable for organic electroluminescence devices.
