โฆ Synopsis
Synthesis and Molecular Structure of a New Arsenic Rich Polyoxovanadium Anion, (AsIII8VIV6O26)4-.
-Green single crystals of (Bu4N)4(As8V6O26) are prepared by reduction of an equimolar aqueous solution of NaVO3 and NaAsO2 with excess hydrazine and addition of Bu4NBr to the solution. The new compound is characterized by TGA, single crystal XRD, and magnetic measurements. The anion of the compound (tetragonal, P4n2, Z = 2) is built-up from six distorted VO5 square pyramids and eight AsO3 trigonal pyramids. Two (V3O11) units consisting of three edge-sharing VO5 pyramids are sandwiched by two handle-like (As2O5) units, thus forming a semicircular fragment. By condensation of two of these fragments a cage structure is formed. The compound is paramagnetic in the temp. range 25 to 50
