Synthesis and Magnetic Behavior of the Novel Pr 2 BaCuO 5 Oxide. -This novel oxide is synthesized by heating (under flowing Ar containing ยก1 ppm O 2 ) an equimolar mixture of the precursor Pr 2 CuO 4 and BaCO 3 at 1050 โ€ข C for 12 h. Pr 2 BaCuO 5 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4/mbm with Z = 4. Magnetization measurements indicate an antiferromagnetic ordering in which both praseodymium and copper sublattices are involved. -(SAEZ-
