✦ Synopsis
Synthesis and Crystal Structure of BaZn(OH) 4 •H 2 O. -Single crystals of the title compound are prepared by reaction of ZnO with Ba(OH) 2 •8H 2 O in a boiling aq. NaOH solution and subsequent corrosion of a zinc/iron-pair in the barium containing solution of hydroxozincate at room temperature. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pna2 1 (Z = 12). The coordination polyhedra of 8O around Ba build face-sharing chains. Three of these chains are connected via edges. Isolated tetrahedra of O around Zn bridge these chains three-dimensionally. Hydrogen positions could not be determined.
