Synthesis and Crystal Structure of the Ξ³-Modifications of US2 and USe2. -Microcrystalline powders of Ξ³-UX2 (X: S, Se) are prepared from U3X5 and X at 600 and 800 K, resp., in evacuated silica ampoules by a presumably topotactic reaction. Ξ³-USe2 is also formed from . alpha.-USe2 at 4 GPa and 773 K.
