โœฆ Synopsis

Synthesis and Characterization of Gallium Antimonide Nanoparticles: Reaction Between Tris(trimethylsilyl)antimonide and Gallium Trichloride.

-Due to its narrow band gap (Eg = 0.75 eV) and the high electron mobility (3000-4000 cm-2 V s) GaSb is very attractive for use in optoelectronic devices and for the production of light-emitting and lightdetecting devices for the 2 ยตm wavelength range. The preparation of GaSb by the dehalosilylation route using Sb(SiMe3)3 and GaCl3 as starting materials (toluene, reflux, 24 h) is described for the first time. The GaSb nanocrystals of 20-30 nm size are characterized by electron diffraction, EDX, SEM, and TEM methods.

The reaction between GaCI, and Sb(SiMe,), in a 1:l mole ratio at 110ยฐC in toluene leads to gallium antimonide, GaSb, which has been characterised by electron diffraction studies and EDX and elemental analyses. Microscopy studies (SEM and TEM) show the formation of nanocrystals with a predominant cry
