✦ Synopsis

Synthesis and Characterization of 1-and 2-(ω-Alken-1-yl)indenes, Their Lithium Salts and Dichlorozirconium(IV) Complexes.

-Reaction of indenyllithium derivatives (I), (VII) and the lithium salt of (X) with alkenyl halides (II) affords 3-alkenylindenes (III), (VIII), and (XI). 2-Alkenylindene derivatives (VI) are accessible by Ni-or Pd-catalyzed coupling of alkenylmagnesium halides with 2-bromoindenes (IV). The products are characterized as neutral compounds or, after reaction with excess BuLi, as their lithium salts. Additionally, their reaction with ZrCl 4 provides novel zirconocene derivatives which are useful catalysts in the polymerization of alkenes. -

The reactions of the trichlorides of gadolinium, erbium, yttrium, lutetium, and ytterbium with 1 a or 2 a (mole ratio 1 : 2) in THF produce the bis(indenyl)lanthanide chloride complexes L 2 LnCl(THF) , whereas the trichlorides of the comparatively large samarium and lanthanum ions react with differ
