Synthesis and Biological Activity of Cyclic Analogues of MPPG and MCPG as Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor Antagonists.

-The synthesis of the two rigidified phenylglycine analogues (VII) and ( XI) is described. Key step is the application of the Bucherer-Bergs reaction affording the hydantoins (VI) and (X) from the corresponding ketones (III) and (VIII) respectively. Analogue (VII) is shown to be a selective group II antagonist.
