Synthesis and Antiviral Activity of Certain 5'-Modified Analogues of 2, 5,6-Trichloro-1-(β-D-ribofuranosyl)benzimidazole (TCRB). -All 18 title compounds, e.g. ( Ib) and (Ic), show significant activity against human cytomegalovirus, some of them similar to lead compound TCRB (Ia), but only little to no activity against herpes simplex virus HSV-1. They are more cytotoxic than TCRB and their antiproliferative activity is higher to normal (human foreskin fibroblasts) than to tumor (KB and L1210) cells. -(GUDMUNDSSON, K.
