Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of 6-Substituted 2-(5-Nitro-2-furyl)-1,3,4,9-tetraazafluorenes.

-The title tetraazafluorenes (III) containing a nitrofuryl as well as an isatin fragment, easily synthesized by condensation of isatin with furohydrazide imide (II), possess activity against E. coli and S. aureus strains. The introduction of an acetyl [(III) → (V)] or hydroxymethyl group [(III) → (VII)] increases the biological activity. -
