Syntheses and X-Ray Powder Structures of K2(ZrSi3O9)•H2O and Its Ion-Exchanged Phases with Na and Cs.
-The title compound is prepared hydrothermally from Zr(OPr)4 and SiO2 under mild conditions (180 • C, 5 d, Teflon vessel). The potassium trisilicate crystallizes in space group P212121 with Z = 4. The Zr atom is octahedrally coordinated by the six terminal O atoms of the Si3O9 group. The trisilicate groups are present as linear chain polymers and its linkage by Zr leads to channels and cavities which are occupied by K+. The isotypic sodium analogue of the title compound, Na3ZrSi3O9•H2O, is prepared by treatment with excess 2 M NaCl. Treatment of the potassium and sodium compounds with CsCl solution yields mixed M2-xCsx(ZrSiO9)•H2O (M: K, Na) compounds that retain the crystal structure of the title compound. -(
