Surprising Catalytic Activity of Bismuth(III) Triflate in the Friedel-Crafts Acylation Reaction.

-Bismuth(III) triflate is found to be a highly active catalyst for Friedel-Crafts acylations. The reaction of activated and deactivated arenes proceeds in high yields and gives mainly the p-substituted products.
