โฆ Synopsis
Surface Acidity and Catalytic Behavior of Modified Zirconium and Titanium Dioxides.
-The effects of activation of the title catalysts by treatment with fluorinating, chlorinating, sulfatizing, and phosphating agents on the surface acidity and the catalytic behavior are studied using the gas phase alkylation of 1-butene with isobutane, the isomerization of 1-butene, and the disproportionation of CCl2F2 as test reactions. The alkylation reaction requires the presence of Broensted acid sites. An enhancement of Lewis acid sites supposed for the disproportionation reaction is not observed. ZrO2 samples modified with (NH4)2SO4 and SF4 exhibit the best performance in the alkylation reaction. Surface treated TiO2 samples show a lower catalytic activity. -(HESS, A.
