✦ Synopsis
Some new thorium compounds of title are synthesized by mixing stoichiometric quantities of either nitrates, oxides, or carbonates of the desired elements and thorium with an aqueous solution of diammonium hydrogen arsenate. Compounds with Sr, Ba, Cd, and Pb as divalent cations containing the lanthanide ions La, Pr, Nd, and Sm crystallize in the monoclinic system similar to monazite LnAsO 4 . Tri-orthoarsenates with Mg and Cd as divalent ions and heavier lanthanide ions such as Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy and Y crystallize in the tetragonal zircon structure.
