✦ Synopsis
Structural, Moessbauer Spetroscopic and Magnetochemical Investigations of EuPt5, TmPt5, and TmPt3 Synthesized from Platinum and Gaseous Lanthanide.
-The title compounds are prepared by reaction of Pt with the gaseous lanthanides in the temp. range 1200 to 1500 • C and characterized by XRD, EPMA, electron diffraction, 151Eu Moesbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. EuPt5 and TmPt5 adopt CaCu5-type related superstructures while TmPt3 crystallizes in an AuCu3 structure type. EuPt5 represents a mixed-valent Eu alloy containing Eu in a trivalent Eu(4f6) and an intermediate-valent Eu(4f6/7) state. For TmPt3 containing trivalent Tm( 4f12), the absence of magnetic ordering is shown for T
