Structural Changes in Co/Zr Multilayers During Annealing Below the Crystallization Temperature. -TWO phases form during annealing of crystalline Co/Zr multilayers at 250 • C. In the first stage a-Zr-rich amorphous phase is formed, in a second stage a competing amorphous phase (α-Co-Zr) is formed at the interfaces between Co and α-Zr. Supported by diffusing Co atoms the α-Co-Zr phase dominates at later stages of annealing. The amorphous part of the layer system is initially dominated by a Zr-rich phase which competes with a second amorphous phase of an approximate composition Co 50 Zr 50 during the subsequent stages. -(KUPSCH, A.;
