✦ Synopsis

Straightforward Synthesis of Some 2-or 3-Substituted Naphthoand Quinolino[1,2,4]triazines via the Cyclocondensation of Nitronaphthalenes and Nitroquinolines with Guanidine Base.

-Cyclocondensation of nitro compounds (I), (IV), or (VI) with guanidine (II) yields the triazines (III), (V), and (VII) in a simple one-pot procedure. Annulation with amidines (VIII) instead of guanidine is also successfully completed but requires longer reaction time. Although not applicable to monocyclic nitroarenes, this procedure seems to be of general interest for further elaboration of 1,2,4-triazine-annulated polycyclic aromatic compounds.
