β¦ Synopsis
Steroids from Marine Sponges Suberites vestigium and Chrotella australiensis.
-β 4 -3-Keto steroids and β 5 -3Ξ²-hydroxy sterols are isolated from C. australiensis. This result leads to the suggestion that the sponge contains 3Ξ²-hydroxydehydrogenase, β 5 -isomerase and β 4 -reduction system, enzymes which are essential for the conversion of sterols to steroid hormones.
