SrHg 2 O 2 Cl 2 , the First Strontium Mercury Oxychloride. Crystal Structure Determination by ab initio Powder Methods.

-The title compound is prepared by solid-state reaction of SrO 2 and Hg 2 Cl 2 . Powder XRD and neutron powder diffraction in combination with ab initio methods show a monoclinic structure (space group P2 1 /n, Z = 4) with significant two-dimensional character. There is a complex network of Hg, O, and Cl atoms surrounding one-dimensional channels propagating along [010], which are occupied by the Sr cations. -(HARRISON, W.
