Sonochemical Hydrolysis of Ga 3+ Ions: Synthesis of Scroll-Like Cylindrical Nanoparticles of Gallium Oxide Hydroxide.
-Sonication of an aqueous solution of GaCl 3 yields rolled-up tubular particles consisting of gallium oxide hydroxide containing a small amount (≈1%) of metallic Ga. The powder XRD pattern can be assigned to α-GaO(OH), which has a orthorhombic structure (space group Pbmn) similar to that of diaspore, α-aluminum oxide hydroxide. The formation of the rolled-cigar-shaped GaO(OH) layers is attributed to the high local temperature in the neighborhood of the collapsing bubble. An explanation for the elongated layered structure based on cavitation collapse occurring at the solid-liquid boundary is suggested. -(AVIVI, S.;
