✦ Synopsis

Some Steric Aspects in the Cyclopropanation of Norbornadiene. -The addition of excess ethyl diazoacetate to norbornadiene catalyzed by Ο€-allyl palladium chloride is exo-stereospecific providing three isomeric diadducts (III), (IV), and (V), with exo-exo configuration of the cyclopropane rings. These isomers differ only in the configuration of the carboethoxy groups. The epimerization with methanol and sodium methoxide of the mixture of diethyl esters affords exclusively the methyl ester (VII) having anti-anti configuration of the carbomethoxy groups.
