Simple and Convenient Method for the Synthesis of ∆ 9(11) -3-Hydroxy, ∆ 1,4 -and ∆ 1,4,9(11) -3-Ketosteroids by Selective Dehydrogenation of 3-Hydroxy-12-ketosteroids.

-Hecogenin (I) can be selectively dehydrogenated to the corresponding title compounds by treatment with excess amounts of DDQ in an appropriate refluxing solvent system.
