-The title tandem reaction proceeds in moderate to good yield in a one-pot procedure using either visible light or HMPA as activator for SmI 2 . It has the advantage to be efficient and safe. The method fails to synthesize nine-and ten-membered carbocycles as well as bicyclic diol (XIX).
