✦ Synopsis
Self-Assembly of a Nanosized, Saddle-Shaped, Solution-Stable Polyoxometalate Anion Built from Pentagonal Building Blocks: [H34W119Se8Fe2O420] 54-. -K44Na10[H34W119Se8Fe2O420]•220 H2O is synthesized by slow evaporation of an aqueous solution of Na2WO4, Na2SeO3, KCl, and Fe(NO3)3 (AcOH, HCl, pH 1.7; 4% yield). The compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with Z = 2 (single crystal XRD). The 2.8 nm large, solution stable [H 34 W 119 Se 8 Fe 2 O 420 ] 54-cluster anion incorporates {WO7} building units and exhibits a unique saddle shape. It represents the largest polyoxotungstate containing pentagonal units so far. -(YAN,
