I), (V), and (VII) (applied as their dimers) are regioselectively arylated with iodides (II) to give the corresponding intermediate biphenyl-and terphenylpalladium complexes. They are demetalated by hydrogenolysis. The formation of by-products can be avoided if the reaction is carried out in vacuo.
