✦ Synopsis
Ruthenium(VI) Doped into Single Crystals with the BaSO4 and β-K2SO4 Structures: Optical Absorption Spectra of RuO2-4.
-The first RuO2+4-doped single crystals of K2CrO4, K2SeO4 and Cs2MoO4 with β-K2SO4 structure and of BaSO4, BaCrO4, and BaSeO4 of barite structure, both crystallizing in the orthorhombic space group Pnma, are prepared and their low-temperature polarized absorption spectra are discussed. The absorption spectrum of Ru (VI) solutions, which until 1976 is erroneously assumed to contain RuO2-4, is strikingly different from the real RuO2-4. The preferred configuration in basic aqueous solutions is trans-Ru(OH)2O2-3. The spectroscopic data of the 4d2 in RuO2-4 are compared with those of the series of 3d2 ions CrO4-
