โฆ Synopsis
Room Temperature Growth of Mesoporous Silica Fibers: A New High-Surface-Area Optical Waveguide.
-Mesoporous hexagonal silica fibers of 1-15 ยตm diameter and 100 ยต m to 5 cm length are synthesized at room temp. by a one-step S+X-I+ (S+ : cationic surfactant; X-: Cl-, B-, or other anion; I+: cationic inorganic species) tri-layer assembly of soluble cationic silica species and cationic surfactant molecules. The transparent mesoporous silica fibers, which exhibit a channel structure, high surface area ( 1200 m2/g), and a narrow pore size distribution, can be used as high-surface area optical fibers in chemical sensing, nanofiber optics, and microelectronics. -(HUO,
