Reduction of Aromatic α-Halo Ketones with Metallic Bismuth.

-BiCl3/NaBH4 proves to be a mild and convenient reducing system for the dehalogenation of aromatic α-halo ketones. Reaction conditions have to be modified for the slowly reacting Cl-derivatives and excellent yields are obtained for all investigated compounds. No side reactions are observed with (Id), which contains an aditional halogen at the aromatic ring.
