β¦ Synopsis
Reduction and Sintering of a Nickel-Dispersed-Alumina Composite and Its Properties.
-Title composites of high density with superior mechanical properties are prepared by reduction and hot pressing of powder mixtures of Al2O3 and NiO using NiO or Ni(NO3)2β’nH2O as Ni source. Composites with Ni particles of β100 nm diameter homogeneously dispersed at the matrix-grain boundaries forming an intergranular nanocomposite are obtained from the nitrate. For Al2O3/5 vol% Ni composites prepared from the nitrate, a fracture strength of ΒΏ 1 GPa is determined. By modification of the microstructure during the fabrication process both the mechanical and the magnetic properties in the ceramic-metal nanocomposite can be controlled. -
