Rearrangement of Allyl Aryl Ethers. Part 3. Reaction of Alkoxyhydroquinone with Cycloalkenediols.

-Acid-catalyzed treatment of alkoxyhydroquinones of type (I) with cycloalkenediols efficiently yields fused furans such as (III) via formation and sigmatropic rearrangement of allylic ethers. Starting from isomeric 2,5-dialkoxyhydroquinones like (IV) elimination of one alkoxy group is observed.
