Reaction of N-Aminophthalimide Derivatives with Aluminum Chloride in Benzene.
-The N-aminophthalimides (I) give the 3,3-diphenyl adducts (III) by initial attack of benzene on the imide carbonyl, assisted by the neighboring nitrogen atom. From the N-arylaminophthalimides (IV) and (VII) aminobiaryls and N-arylanilines are obtained via heterolytical cleavage of the N-N bond to give an arylnitrenium ion. -(OHWADA, A.
