Reaction of N-Aminophthalimide Derivatives with Aluminum Chloride in Benzene.

-The N-aminophthalimides (I) give the 3,3-diphenyl adducts (III) by initial attack of benzene on the imide carbonyl, assisted by the neighboring nitrogen atom.
