✦ Synopsis
Reaction of 4-Hydroxyacridin-9(10H)-one and 4-Hydroxyacridine-9(10H)-thione with α,ω-Alkyl Dibromides.
-The reactivity of hydroxyacridinone (IV), its thione derivative and some of their N-and O-methyl derivatives towards alkylating and acylating agents is investigated. The only practical procedure to prepare the thione derivative of (IV) is treating (IV) with tetraphosphorus decasulfide since demethylation of (VIII) by means of hydrobromic acid gives complex mixtures. The 4-methoxy derivatives of the title compounds are more difficult to demethylate than the previously reported 2-methoxy analogues.
