Reaction of 2-Alkenylthiobenzimidazoles with Iodine.
-The reaction of 2-alkenylthiobenzimidazoles (III), (VI), (VIII), and (X), with iodine is studied. The derivatives (III) and (VI) undergo the desired halocyclization in various solvents to afford the dihydrothiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazolium systems (IV) or (VII) respectively. The 1-allyl-2-allylthio-(VIII) as well as the 2styrylthiobenzimidazole (X) form only complexes with iodine which decompose during work up with aqueous sodium thiosulfate. -(KIM, D. G.; AVDIN,
