Reaction Behavior of β-Oxo Carbonic Acid Derivatives of the Anthracene Series in Thiophene Synthesis.
-The use of β-oxo-1-(I) and β-oxo-9-anthracenepropionates ( VI) as building blocks in the synthesis of thiophenes is described. The cyclocondensation of the corresponding key ketene-S,N-acetals (IV) and (VII) proceeds via different mechanisms due to sterical reasons.
