Rate Enhancement in the Reduction of (2,3)-α-and (2,3)-β-Methylenepenam β-Sulfoxides.

-The ease of reduction of the title compounds such as (I) to the corresponding sulfides, using trifluoroacetic anhydride and potassium iodide, is examined. The results indicate that their reduction is of several orders of magnitude greater than the reduction of bicyclic penam β-sulfoxides.
