-A safe large-scale synthesis of title compound (I) is developed involving an improved final alkylation step, that generates the potentially toxic alkylating chloromethyl ethyl ether in situ, eliminates the use of 15-crown-5, and replaces the hazardous combination NaH/DMF with iPr 2 NEt/DBU/DMF. -(
