โœฆ Synopsis

Preparation of the Hydrides Mg2FeH6 and Mg2CoH5 by Mechanical

Alloying Followed by Sintering.

-The production of Mg2FeH6 by the title process is significantly enhanced by milling of 2:1 Mg-Fe powder mixtures under H2 atmosphere followed by sintering at 623 K for 1 day under 50 bar H2 pressure. By this procedure Mg2FeH6 is formed in up to 84% yield (excluding MgO formed during pelletizing and optionally XRD measurements in air). In the case of 2:1 Mg-Co mixtures, the yield of Mg2CoH5 (55%) is independent on the milling atmosphere (H2 or Ar). -(HUOT,
