Preparation of Olefins from Alcohols by Thermal Rearrangement of Propargylic Xanthates.
-Thermolysis of propargylic xanthates derived from secondary alcohols in the presence of catalytic amounts of collidinium triflate affords the corresponding olefins in good yields. When the xanthate is located at C-17 of the steroid skeleton [cf. (VIII)], direct elimination is slower than Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement.
