Preparation and Properties of Li-Co-O Compounds. -Thermal treatment of Li and Co precursors in the presence of O 2 gives rise to compounds like lithiated Co 3 O 4 , quasi spinel LiCoO 2 , to layered LiCoO 2 and finally to solid solution of CoO in LiCoO 2 (layered ordered LiyCo 2-y O 2 ), and/or to solid solution of LiCoO 2 in CoO (rock salt desordered LixCo 1-x O).
