β¦ Synopsis
Preparation and Fluorescence Spectroscopy of Bulk Monoclinic Eu 3+ :Y 2 O 3 and Comparison to Eu 3+ :Y 2 O 3 Nanocrystals.
-Bulk monoclinic Eu 3+ :Y 2 O 3 is prepared by a high-temperature, high-pressure synthesis from Y(NO 3 ) 3 β’6H 2 O and Eu 2 O 3 . It has sharp spectral lines without the line broadening and "secondary phase" of Eu 3+ :Y 2 O 3 nanocrystals. The 5 D 0 fluorescence lifetimes are longer in the nanocrystals than in the bulk material, indicating that there is no lifetime shortening in the nanocrystals due to quenching by the proximity of surface defects. -(WILLIAMS, D.
