and Conformation of Monohalotetrahydroxycalix(5)arenes. -Thermal dediazoniation of the corresponding diazonium halides in chloroform or in the presence of bromide or iodide ions affords the title compounds (I). The appropriate fluoro derivative cannot be prepared on the same way. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that bromocalixarene (Ib) exists in a distorted cone conformation. -( VAN GELDER,
