✦ Synopsis

Preparation and Compressive Strength Behavior of Porous Ceramics with . beta.-Ca(PO3)2 Fiber Skeletons.

-Porous ceramics for biomedical applications are prepared by sintering of fibers extracted from a crystalllized 46CaO•54P2O5 glass by aqueous leaching. The porosities of materials with long β-Ca(PO3) 2 fibers range from 65 to 73% and the compressive strengths are in the range 2-8 MPa. The novel material, which is characterized by compressive strains of 0.2-0.3 prior to catastrophic failure, exhibits much higher flexibility than conventional ceramics. -(OTA, Y.; KASUGA, T.;
