Potassium β"-Aluminogallate. -Single crystals of a non-stoichiometric potassium β"-aluminogallate of composition K 1.67 Mg 0.67 Al 8.58 Ga 1.75 O 17 are prepared by reaction of Al 2 O 3 , Ga 2 O 3 , NaF, and MgO in a Na 2 CO 3 flux (1798 K, 10 d) and subsequent ion exchange with KNO 3 . K 1.67 Mg 0.67 Al 8.58 Ga 1.75 O 17 crystallizes in the trigonal space group R3m with Z = 3. The Ga atoms preferentially occupy the tetrahedral 6c site in the middle of a spinel block of aluminum oxide, where also all charge-stabilizing Mg 2+ ions are located. -(EDSTROEM,
