✦ Synopsis
The polyoxovanadates Cs
and some related compounds are prepared. Characterization by IR, EPR, magnetic susceptibility, and single crystal XRD measurements show that these compounds contain approximately spherical {V 18 O 42 } shells of two different structure types but with remarkably different electron populations corresponding to the three anion types V IV 18 O 42 , V IV 16 V V 2 O 42 and V IV 10 V V 8 O 42 . The shell can act as host system for neutral and anionic guests. The magnetic properties are discussed in terms of the electron-dependent spin organization on a spherical cluster shell. -
