Photochemistry of Some 1,4-Dihydropyridine Derivatives.

Part 1.

-The photochemical behavior of some 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives under argon and oxygen atmosphere is studied. The irradiation of (I) under oxygen yields the oxidation products (II). A rearrangement product (IV) and the trans-dimer (VI), resp., are obtained when the photolysis is carried out under argon atmosphere. (II) are also obtained by reaction of (I) with ceric ammonium nitrate.
