โฆ Synopsis
Phase Transfer Catalyzed C-vs O-Alkylation of 3-Methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one in the Absence or Presence of Carbon Disulfide.
-Title compound (I) is treated with different bromoorganic compounds as alkylating agents. Alkylation of pyrazolone (I) by bromoacetaldehyde diethylacetal fails because the presence of triethyl orthoformate in the commercial bromoacetal causes formylation of (I) faster than alkylation. It is found that the optimum conditions of PTC alkylation is a liquid/solid-phase combination using benzene and anhydrous potassium carbonate as a solid phase and mild base. -(HASSAN, M.
