β¦ Synopsis
Perchloropolysilane: X-Ray Structure, Solid-State 29 Si NMR Spectroscopy, and Reactions of [SiCl 2 ]n.
-Highly moisture-sensitive crystals of linear perchloropolysilane [SiCl 2 ]n (I) are obtained by sublimation of cyclic Si 4 Cl 8 molecules. A mechanism involving radical recombination of diradical species derived from ring-opened Si 4 Cl 8 is proposed. The polysilane (I) crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P2 1 2 1 2 1 with Z = 4 (first X-ray analysis of a polysilane) and consists of infinite parallel-aligned all-trans chains of SiCl 2 repeat units. The chlorine atoms of the polymer are susceptible to nucleophilic substitution reactions. (I) proves to be a valuable synthon for the preparation of new kinds of polysilanes that are not available by current methods. -(KOE,
