โฆ Synopsis
Palladium-Catalyzed Intramolecular Cyclization of o-Ethynylbenzoic Acids and o-Ethynylbenzamides: Preparation of Isocoumarins and Isoquinolin-1-ones. -6-endo-dig Cyclization of the o-ethynylbenzoic acids (I) with a Pd(II) catalyst gives isocoumarins such as (II). Bulky substituents at the end of the triple bond [cf. (III)] produce additionally phthalides such as (V) by 5-exo-dig cyclization. The similar reaction with ethynylbenzamides (VI) affords only isoquinolinones. -(SASHIDA, HARUKI; KAWAMUKAI, ATSUSHI; Synthesis (1999) 7, 1145-1148; Fac.
